Description

Smithy Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage located on Stone House Lane in Peckforton. The building is constructed of timber-frame with stone and brick nogging, and has a machine tile roof. It is a single-storey and attic structure with two bays. A stone plinth runs along the base of the building, with the south gable also in stone and a stone lean-to extending from the north gable. The facade features small timber framing with short angle and tension braces. A replaced ledged and braced door has been fitted with false strap hinges. The windows are cast iron, in a Tollemache style, with those to the upper floor set within gabled half dormers. A rebuilt diagonal single-flue stack is present. Inside, the cottage contains bevelled beams and exposed ceiling joists.
