Description
No 148 on Hospital Street is a mid 18th century detached house. It is built of red brick and has two storeys. The house features a segmental projection to the left and has four sash windows with stone lintels and keyblocks. The entrance is highlighted by a well-crafted stone doorcase that includes three-quarter Ionic pilasters, an open pediment, and panelled reveals. Above the door, there is a semi-circular Adam type fanlight and a six-panelled door. The building also has two moulded lead rainwater heads, plain eaves, and a stone-coped parapet above the segmental bay. The ends of the house are gabled, and it has a tiled roof. This property was formerly known as Nuthurst Garden School. It is part of a group that includes Nos 122 to 126 (even), Nos 130 to 144 (even), Nuthurst School, Nos 146 and 148, and Churche's Mansion.
