Description

The Rookery is a large, substantial house dating from the mid-18th century, situated on Hospital Street. The front of the house faces a road junction. It is likely that an older house was incorporated into the structure at the rear. The symmetrical facade features projecting wings on either side. The house is constructed of red brick with long and short quoins marking the angles. It has two storeys, with a 3-light sash window pattern across the front, featuring light wood pilasters and a cornice. A central entrance is marked by 3/4 Roman Doric column pilasters, a segmental pediment, and an imitation fanlight. The roof is hipped and tiled. The interior includes a triple arched hall and a good staircase.
