Description

This is a canal milestone dating from around 1830, made of shaped millstone grit. The south face of the milestone is inscribed with "From/ Marple / 8 Miles," while the north face reads "From / Hall Green / 18 Miles." It is located approximately midway between the aqueduct over Grimshaw Lane and Bridge No 27 on the Macclesfield Canal.
