Description
The Methodist Church, built in 1886 by William Waddington of Manchester, is a Grade II listed building. It is constructed of buff sandstone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof with a red tile ridge, designed in the 13th-century style. The church is aligned nearly north-south and has a nave consisting of five bays, along with a south-west tower topped by a spire. The nave is adorned with mullioned and transomed lancet-headed windows, which are set under hood moulds and include lancet-shaped lights with trefoil cusped elements in the upper sections. The south front has twin lancet entrances that are accessed by four steps. The south window features four lights with geometric tracery above, flanked by lancets. The tower is hexagonal with four stages, and the top stage includes louvred lancet bell openings on each face, all set within carved surrounds, culminating in a broached spire. Inside, the only surviving feature from the alterations made in 1959 is the raking south gallery, along with some original figured stained glass.
