Description

This canal lock dates from 1805 and was constructed as part of the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal. The engineer was J Fletcher, working under the consultant Thomas Telford. The lock is built of blue and red brick with stone detailing. The upper (south) gate is a single gate and the lower (north) gates are a pair, all of which have been replaced with metal gates. The approach walls are constructed of stone with swept sides, although some of the copings on the lock side walls have been replaced with concrete.
