Description
Sound Oak Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone alterations and additions. It features a timber frame with plastered panels and a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high and has an "H" shaped plan with four bays. The gabled end-bays slightly project at the first floor and eaves levels, supported by carved post-consoles beneath the bressumers. The windows are replaced oak bevelled mullion and transom types. The central oak door has flush panels, diminished stiles, and a glazed upper section between two muntins. A loggia fronts the central bays, filling the space between the projecting gabled end bays, and is supported by two oak posts. Above the loggia, the wall features planted timbers. The rear elevation retains the original corner posts, while the gables also have planted timbers. Inside, the farmhouse showcases ovolo moulded beams and exposed ceiling joists.
