Description
Baddiley Hall is a house with origins from the late 17th century but appears to be of late 18th century style. It is constructed of brown brick and has a tile roof. The building has three storeys and an attic, arranged in three bays, with a north-west wing that completes an "L" shaped plan. The house features a moulded sandstone plinth and a slightly projecting central bay topped with a stone gable pediment. The entrance consists of a part bolection moulded six-panel door with a rectangular overlight, set in a rusticated stone opening with a triple keystone, and is accessed by four steps. The windows are wide sashes with small upper lights, exposed weight boxes, stone sills, and cambered arches. A brick dentil course runs along the eaves, and there are gable-end stacks. The north gable and west wing have three-light flush casements, although some openings in the gable are blocked. The side door on the north is a four-panel door with bolection moulds.
Inside, there is an inglenook beam moulded in a 15th-century style, and six-panel doors on HL hinges. The interior also features moulded plaster cornices and plaster cased beams. The roof frame dates from the 17th century and includes many reused timbers, with trusses that have three posts between the tie beam and collar, tiebeam braces, and braces from queen posts and collar level braces from the king post above the collar.
