Description
Hollybank Cottage is an early 17th-century cottage constructed with a brick-nogged timber frame. Originally thatched, it now features an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building has two storeys and a three-window facade with a 12-panel design, as well as a seven-panel gable made with small framing and passing braces. There is a 20th-century lean-to and porch on the west side, supported by two timber posts and topped with a tiled roof. The porch includes an oak boarded door with false strap hinges. The windows are flush casements with glazing bars, and the gable has barge boards. A rebuilt central stack is present, and at the rear, a large 20th-century wing completes a "T" shaped plan. Inside, the cottage features bevelled beams and exposed joists, with an inglenook beam over the fireplace that has stone side cheeks. The original rear wall timbers are covered by the new south wing, and there are bevelled purlins with wind braces.
