Description
Baddiley Lock Number 1 on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal is a canal lock built in 1805 by engineer J. Fletcher, with consulting by Thomas Telford. The structure is constructed of blue and red brick in English Bond, featuring stone dressing. It has a single replaced metal upper gate on the south side, along with a pair of wooden gates and beams on the north side. The approaches to the lock are splayed and stone dressed, although the original stone copings on the sides of the lock have been replaced with concrete and blue clay bullnosed blocks.
