Description

Wrenbury Church Bridge is a farm bridge built around 1790 by Thomas Telford, located over the Shropshire Union Canal. It features a single span made of timber, with a wooden platform formed of planks laid between timber beams that spans the river at the bank level. The platform is hinged at its northern edge and can be raised and lowered by a counterbalancing beam weight. This weight is supported by two square-section posts on the northern bank, which carry two horizontal beams. Chains connect the southern ends of these beams to the bridge platform and the northern ends to the weight. Additionally, iron tension rods run from the vertical beams to the ends of the horizontal beams. There are three such bridges in the parish.
