Description
Wrenbury Frith Bridge is a farm bridge built around 1790 by Thomas Telford, located over the Shropshire Union Canal. This bridge features a single span made of timber. A wooden platform, constructed from planks laid between timber beams, spans the river at the bank level. The platform is hinged at its northern edge and can be raised and lowered using a counterbalancing beam weight. This weight is supported by two square-section posts on the northern bank, which also carry two horizontal beams. Chains connect the southern ends of these beams to the bridge platform, while the northern ends hold the weight. Iron tension rods extend from the vertical beams to the ends of the horizontal beams. There are three such bridges in the parish.
