Description
Wrenbury Bridge is a road bridge built around 1790 by Thomas Telford, located over the Shropshire Union Canal. It features a single span and is constructed of timber. The bridge has a wooden platform made of planks laid between timber beams, which spans the river at the bank level. The platform is hinged at its northern edge and can be raised and lowered using a counterbalancing beam weight. This weight is supported by two square-section posts on the northern bank, which carry two horizontal beams connected to the platform with chains. Iron tension rods extend from the vertical beams to the ends of the horizontal beams. Additionally, the bridge is equipped with a 20th-century mechanical crank for raising and lowering the structure. There are three similar bridges in the parish.
