Pinsley Green Cottages

A pair of cottages located in Dodecott Cum Wilkesley, initially dating to the late 17th century, with additions made in the mid-18th century, and later alterations and additions in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed with a mix of brick and timber frame; the timber frame is nogged with brick and rendered, and remnants of a thatched roof remain, now covered by corrugated metal sheeting. They are three storeys and attic, comprising three bays. The northern cottage retains a complete timber frame in the front, rear, gable, party, and cross walls. This frame is eight panels wide with small framing, featuring a six-panel deep gable, a single middle rail, and passing braces. The gable truss features a tie beam, collar, and four vertical studs between them. The southern cottage is of rendered brickwork. Both cottages have matching two-light flush casement windows with a single horizontal glazing bar, with attic windows set within flat-roofed dormers. A modern four-panel door is located in the north cottage, while the south cottage has a ledged and battened door in its gable. A square brick party wall stack is present, and there are gable barge boards. A single-storey lean-to at the rear (west) of the north cottage is of minimal interest. Inside the north cottage, a large stop-chamfered inglenook beam fronts a straight brick flue. Exposed timbers are visible throughout both external and internal walls, along with chamfered beams and ceiling joists, although the timbers in the south (brick) cottage are softwood. Exposed purlins are also present.
