Description
Hurleston Lock Number 2 on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal is a canal lock built around 1805 by engineer J. Fetcher, with consultation from T. Telford. The structure is made of engineering bricks laid in English Bond and features metal gates. The upper gate is single, while the lower section has a pair of metal gates, which were replaced in 1974. There is some sandstone dressing on the lock approach walls, although the lock-side edgings have been replaced with concrete blocks.
