Description
Hurleston Lock Number 4 (west) is a canal lock on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1805 by engineer J. Fetcher, with consultation from T. Telford. The structure is made of engineering bricks laid in English Bond and features both metal and wooden gates. The upper single gate on the west side is metal, while the lower pair consists of wooden gates supported by wooden beams. The curved approach walls are dressed with sandstone, although the lock-side edging blocks have been replaced with blue bricks.
