Description
Hurleston Lock No. 3 is a canal lock on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1805 by engineer J. Fetcher, with consultation from T. Telford. The lock is constructed from engineering bricks laid in English Bond and features both metal and wooden gates. The upper gate on the west side is made of metal, while the lower pair consists of wooden gates supported by wooden beams. The approach walls to the lock are dressed with sandstone, although some of the edging blocks on the lock side have been replaced with concrete blocks. One of the cast-iron winding gear posts appears to be original.
