Description
Bache House Farmhouse is a building with origins dating back to the late 17th century, though it has an appearance from the early 19th century. It features whitened brickwork and pebble dashing, with a slate roof. The structure is two stories high with an attic and consists of four bays, along with a three-bay return on the north-west side, forming an "L" shaped plan.
At the south end of the east front, there is a projecting brick porch that has a semi-circular headed opening on the side, which includes a mild steel gate. The main entrance door is half glazed and set within a beaded door case. The windows are primarily 3-light flush casements with wooden sills and glazing bars; they have flat heads on the facade and segmental arches on the return. Some of the first-floor windows have been blocked. The side entrance features a 12-panel door in a fluted pilaster doorcase, complete with a projecting cornice and flat head. The gables have barge boards, and there are plain brick stacks.
Inside, the three-bay return, which was previously a cheese room, is now part of the house and contains 18th-century chamfered beams. The walls have visible timbers, and there are 6-panel, 4-panel, and wide boarded doors on HL hinges. The oak staircase has square balusters and a boarded spandrel. On the first floor, there are 4-panel doors. The attic reveals gable timbers, chamfered oak purlins, and strutted trusses, along with boarded doors on HL hinges. The roof above the former cheese room features a king post truss.
