Description

Hawthorn Cottage is a former barn that was converted into two cottages in the 19th century and later into a single house in the 20th century. The building dates back to the mid-17th century and features red English garden wall bond brickwork and a timber frame with rendered infill, topped by a slate roof. It is two storeys tall and has an entrance front with four bays divided by timber posts. The first, fourth, and fifth bays from the left have 18th-century replacement brick infill, while the second and third bays exhibit close-studding and angle braces. A 20th-century porch is located to the left of the centre. The ground floor has three 20th-century casement windows to the left and three similar windows to the right of the porch. The first floor features five similar windows. There is a 19th-century outshut on the left-hand gable end.

The rear elevation consists of five bays with small framing on a stone and brick plinth, featuring rendered brick infill that includes variations of 2 x 2 and 3 x 2 cells of small framing. The far left has rendered herringbone infill in the 2 x 2 cells. Angle braces are present in the fifth, sixth, and eleventh upper cells. Inside, the cottage has chamfered beams and close studding in the roof trusses.
