Description
Malthouse Cottages is a former row of three cottages, now a single house, dating from the 15th century and altered in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Originally built with timber framing featuring jowled posts and box framing, much of the structure is now underbuilt in brick laid in Flemish bond with burnt headers. The roof is plain tiled and has large external gable stacks at each end with stone bases and facetted diamond-set brick stacks, along with a single ridge stack.
The building has a two-storey, irregular seven-bay front with central and end gables made of 20th-century brickwork, while still retaining some box framing. The central entrance features a planked door sheltered by a 20th-century gabled open timber porch. To the left of the door are two pairs of two-light windows and a single three-light window, while to the right are single two-light, three-light, and four-light windows. On the first floor, there are four two-light windows along with single three-light and four-light windows. All the windows are 20th-century leaded casements.
