Description
The Methodist Chapel and Sunday School is a building dated 1828 and 1914, respectively. The chapel features red Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and has a hall plan with a gallery at the rear. The entrance front has two symmetrical bays, with a central ground floor doorway that includes a 6-panel 20th-century door framed by a moulded surround and a fanlight above. On either side of the doorway are windows with 4 x 4 sash panes, complete with ashlar sills and wedge lintels. The gallery has two similar windows, and there is a datestone located at the center of the gable. The chapel is situated on a bank above the road, accessible by a flight of stone steps. The retaining wall acts as a plinth and is topped with cast iron railings, each vertical railing featuring a spearhead finial, while the left-hand gate post has a vase finial and the gates have crescent dog bars. Adjacent to the chapel is the single-storey Sunday school, which has a gabled porch on the far right, featuring a cambered doorway and two cambered-headed windows with 2 x 3 panes.
