Description
The Baptist Chapel, built in 1828, is a single-storey building made of red brick and topped with a hipped roof covered in concrete pantiles. The chapel has a rectangular shape with corners defined by clasping pilasters. The south side features a double-leaf panelled door set within panelled reveals, framed by a doorcase with reeded and bowed pilasters, a dentil cornice, and a flat hood. Flanking the door are two 6/6 unhorned sash windows, each set under gauged skewback arches. Above the door is a datestone, situated just below a half-round window with radial glazing bars. On the west side, there are two recessed arched niches, each containing a fixed 12-paned window with an opening 12-paned upper section, along with a door and a small window towards the north end.
Inside, the chapel features panelled galleries on the north and south sides, with the southern gallery supported by cast-iron columns. Both galleries are enclosed and have 20th-century suspended ceilings. The interior also includes a polygonal pulpit adorned with trefoiled arcading, and a total immersion font located beneath the central aisle running north-south.
