Description
The Methodist Chapel, built in 1815, is a notable structure made of red brick in Flemish bond with some stone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. It stands two stories tall and features three bays. The central bay includes a full-height round-arched recess, accessed by five steps with flanking railings leading to a central double leaf of six-panel doors, which is topped by a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. This entrance is framed by rusticated Doric pilasters, a reeded archivolt, and a keystone. Above the entrance, there is a large panel inscribed with 'METHODIST CHAPEL' and the date '1815'.
The windows are round-headed sashes with glazing bars and stone sills, and there is a stone band on the first floor. The eaves are supported by paired gutter brackets, and the roof is hipped. Inside, the chapel retains its complete 1815 interior, which includes a gallery supported by Doric columns that is circular at the rear, along with box pews and a central two-tier pulpit.
