Description

The Church of St John the Evangelist is a church built in 1848, constructed from ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof. The church features a nave with three bays and a south porch, as well as a chancel with one bay and a north vestry. The nave's bays are separated by offset angle buttresses. The west bay includes a south porch that has a four-centred chamfered arch beneath a shallow gable, which is adorned with kneelers and stone coping. The porch has an inner board door. The windows in the nave are flat-headed, consisting of two lights with chamfered mullions, cusped heads, and hoodmoulds. Additional architectural details include an eaves band, a parapet, and stone coping. To the west of the south porch, there is a gabled bellcote facing south, featuring one four-centred arched opening and stone coping. The west wall is blind, and the north side of the church mirrors the south. Both gables are stone-coped. The chancel has offset diagonal buttresses and an east window that is flat-headed with four lights, featuring cusped ogee-headed tracery and a hoodmould, positioned above a basket-arched relieving arch. The gable coping is made of stone. On the north wall, there is a small plain vestry that is contemporary with the church. The interior of the church is very simple.
