Description

Swale Bridge is a road bridge built in 1781 by John Carr. It is constructed from ashlar and features seven segmental arches with voussoirs. The three central arches are larger than the others, and the central arch is flanked by semicircular cutwaters that rise into pedestrian retreats. At each end of the three central arches, the bridge projects forward with pilasters on the outer sides of the end arches. It has a band, a plain parapet, and stone coping, with square end piers. Notably, half of the bridge is located in the parish of Baldersby, in the Harrogate District.
