Description
Fir Tree Cottages are three cottages dating from the early 17th century. They are timber framed with thatch and tiled roofs, single storey with an attic, and consist of two bays each, arranged in an "L" shape. The cottages feature mainly close studding with a middle rail and angle braces, and one gable faces the highway at the east end. The front is enhanced by a verandah with a tiled roof. The ground floor has mainly 2-light cast iron lozenge casement windows, while the gabled dormers and the east gable have leaded lattice windows above. The gables are fully timbered and include barge boards. There are large brick stacks with heavy caps. At the rear, there are later lean-to additions. Inside, the cottages have bevelled beams, ledged and battened doors, and six-panel doors.
