Description
The Former Rectory is an early 18th-century building, originally a rectory and now a private dwelling, located on Audley Road in Barthomley. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with a basement, and originally comprised six bays. A pair of partly-glazed doors are set within an opening featuring a panelled doorcase and a cornice-moulded hood, accessed by seven steps flanked by curved walls. A large, semi-circular three-sash bay window is located on the southwest corner. The central five bays are set back from the facade. Sash windows with stone sills, exposed glazing bars, and flat-gauged arches are present throughout. One ground floor window opening has been built up, and the position of a second has been altered. A brick band is visible on the first floor of the inner five bays. The building is topped by a high parapet wall with coping, which is believed to be the remnant of a former half-storey. The east elevation includes large recessed sash windows. A four-storey, one-bay-wide tower with a lead roll hipped roof is located on the northeast corner. Internally, panelled window shutters remain.
