Description

The canal milestone, dating from around 1827, was created for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is made of ashlar sandstone, shaped at the top and tooled on the sides. The west face of the milestone displays the inscription "From /Marple/ 21 Miles," while the east face reads "From /Hall Green/ 5 1/4," although the "5 1/4" is somewhat indistinct.
