Description
The Biddulph Valley Aqueduct, built around 1830 by William Crosley, is an aqueduct that spans a mineral railway. It features sandstone abutments made of rock masonry and a cast iron trough, with some brickwork present. The cast iron trough is flanked by brick skew vaulting to the arch, while the outer faces of the aqueduct are constructed from rock masonry. The single round-headed arch over the mineral railway line is made of voussoirs, with a raised keystone that connects to a plain ashlar band at deck level. The embankment walls are curved, and the coping is made of rough rock masonry. Setts are still visible on the towpath, and there are gates set within the stone coping on the canal sides.
