Description

Mere Lodge is a gate lodge built in 1822 by Lewis Wyatt. It is constructed of ashlar and rendered brick, with lead and slate roofs. The building is octagonal and two storeys high, with a 19th-century one-storey addition to the north. The southwest facade features a covered colonnade supported by baseless Tuscan columns at the building's angles. Above the colonnade is an entablature without a cornice, and the colonnade has a lead roof. The ground floor includes an arched door, while the first floor has a rectangular window with three sets of three lights. There is a central chimney stack. The other facades are similar, but they have ground floor windows with arched heads under the colonnade and blind windows on the first floor to the south and southeast. There are later buttress pieces added under the colonnade at the angles of the west and southwest walls, as well as the east and southeast walls, connecting to the corresponding columns. To the west, there is a one-storey outhouse with plastered walls. Inside, there is a central open string staircase with quarter circular winders.
