Description

The stable block at Tatton Hall, built in the late 18th century by Samuel Wyatt, is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. The building features eleven bays arranged in a rhythm of one:three:three:three:one. It has a central two-storey bay and two two-storey end bays, connected by one-storey ranges.

On the south facade, there is a stone base and a stone band between the floors that becomes a wall capping with a beaded moulded profile over the single-storey ranges. A central projecting three-bay pavilion has two pediments over the lateral bays, with stone dressings of cyma profile. The central bay is slightly recessed, with the ground floor originally serving as a through driveway to the rear but now functioning as a lobby. Above this is a lunette window. At the ridge, there is a square wooden clock stage with four faces, topped by a bellcote featuring arched openings, a pyramidal roof, and a weather vane. The ground floor has rectangular sash windows with three by four panes, stone cills, and splayed head arches above. The first floor features similar windows with three by two panes.

Each one-storey wing on either side has three three by four pane windows. The end pavilions each contain one bay with similar three by four and three by two pane windows on the ground and first floors, topped with pyramidal roofs. The eastern pavilion has a carriage doorway at ground floor level, now forming a lobby. The side elevations have three bays at first floor level, with 19th-century outshuts at ground floor level. The north elevation mirrors the south, except the central bay and arched window are bricked in, with a three by four pane window inserted at ground floor level.
