Description

Wards End Old Farm is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century and features 20th-century extensions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and has a Kerridge stone slate roof with two plastered chimneys. Originally designed as a gable entry two-room house, it now has a long rectangular plan. The north front of the original house is two stories high with three bays. The windows include a mix of two 2-light windows, one 3-light window, and one 4-light window, all with tall chamfered stone mullions and three of them set under rubble hood moulds. The south front has similar windows, including one in a gabled half dormer, and there are matching windows in the west gable. The extensions on both the left and right sides are designed to be in keeping with the original structure.

Inside, there are timber-framed partitions with wattle and daub infill. The ceilings feature chamfered beams with flat stops, along with a fire beam and heck arrangement. Some original staircase elements remain, including flat serpentine balusters and a square newel post. The stairwell contains simple oak panelled cupboards, and the original front door is a four-board design with a wooden latch.
