Description
Walnut Cottage, originally known as Walnut Tree, is a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 17th century, with an additional section built in 1751 for Peter Cotteril. The structure consists of two houses, featuring a combination of timber-framed sections on a stone plinth and areas of washed brick. The roof is made of Kerridge stone-slate, with a stone ridge and three stone chimneys. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the south range being timber framed.
The north front has nine irregular small frames, each with angle bracing at the wall plate. There is a door located in the right end bay and near the center, along with two wooden casements and an added dormer that has a raking roof. The west end wall is constructed of rubble sandstone. The east range is a two-storey, three-bay brick cottage. The end bays feature two-light wooden casements beneath segmental rough brick heads, while the central door, which is from the 20th century, is also set under a similar head and has a date plaque above it reading "PCC 1751."
