Description

The Shropshire Union Canal mile post, located 30 meters north of Hack Green Bridge, is a cast-iron structure dating from around 1826. It stands 600 millimeters high and has a dome top with a diameter of 150 millimeters. The post features a curved-on-plan "T" shaped distance indicator that is divided into three panels. Each panel displays raised black capital letters on a white background, indicating distances: "Nantwich 3 miles" to the north, "Autherley Junction 36 miles" to the south, and "Norbury Junction 20½ miles" at the lower center. The panels have beaded divisions and edgings, and the lower panel is supported by a beaded-ring moulding on the post.
