Description
Hack House Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, although it now has a 20th-century external appearance. The building features whitened roughcast and brickwork with a machine tile roof. It is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. A later three-bay wing on the north side creates a "T" shaped plan. The entrance has a half-glazed four-panel door, which is sheltered by a pitched-roof porch that has turned baluster side rails, shaped struts at the top, and a shaped barge board. The windows are flush three-light casements with glazing bars. The chimneys have been rebuilt in blue bricks, including a large central stack. On the west side of the house, there is an oak boarded door with strap hinges.
Inside, the farmhouse features ovolo-moulded beams and exposed ceiling joists. A large ovolo-moulded inglenook beam is present, and on the first floor, there are ovolo-moulded and exposed ceiling joists in three rooms. An exposed wall plate shows dowel holes, indicating that the original walls were constructed with small framing.
