Description
Hack Green Lock Number 1 is a canal lock located south of Hack Green Bridge on the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1826, with consultant Thomas Telford involved in its design. The lock is constructed from blue bricks laid in English Bond and features sandstone, along with metal and wooden gates. The lower gates are made of timber with wooden beams, while the upper gate is metal with a wooden beam. The copings on the approach wall and lock-side are primarily sandstone, though some have been replaced with concrete. The area around the lower lock gate's winding gear and the sloping towpath is made of red engineering bricks.
