Description

Austerson Hall is a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century but with an 19th-century appearance. It is built with whitewashed roughcast over brickwork, and has a machine tile roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a four-bay front. A rear wing to the east creates a "T" shaped plan. The front entrance features a part-glazed, four-panel door with bolection moulded lower panels and a single wing-light, protected by a flat, lead-covered hood with a moulded cornice supported by moulded gallows brackets. Most windows are flush casements in projecting frames with a crown moulding; however, the south-facing windows have 20th-century metal casement inserts, and there are sash windows at the rear (west). The south end of the building has lead hips while the north end features a gable end stack. A lean-to has been added to the south side.

Inside, the hall has a framed ceiling with four bevelled beams and exposed joists. Sections of exposed timbers with passing braces are visible, as are ceilings framed into panels with square section joists. Other areas feature stop-chamfered beams and exposed joists. The first floor has old wide boarded doors on strap hinges, exposed posts with carved consoles supporting ovolo moulded beams, and posts with jowls alongside chamfered beams with exposed joists.
