Description
Ciss Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with extensive additions from the 19th century. It features a timber frame with wattle and daub and brick infill, topped with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with a two-gabled front. The right gable is from the 19th century and includes 2-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, along with a single-light attic window above. The left side of the front shows the 17th-century section, which has a renewed ground floor made of 19th-century brick, featuring a rectangular bay window on the right and a porch on the left. The first floor has small-framing with six 2-cell sections, and the gable has quadrant infill in two of the cells. The gable slightly jetties and has an ovolo-moulded bressumer. The left side of the building is obscured by 19th-century outshuts. At the rear, the projecting gable end of the 17th-century section is covered in pebbledash render and has 19th-century windows. There is one ridge stack on the left and a gabled wing on the entrance front.
Inside, the kitchen features an ingle nook fireplace with an ovolo-moulded bressumer and chamfered ceiling beams. The staircase has one and a half flights with a half landing, adorned with splat balusters that have moulded sides, square newel posts with reeded edges, faceted ball finials, and a moulded handrail. The edge of the stairwell includes a band of moulded plasterwork depicting knots of foliage and grapes.
