Description

Canal Bridge No. 83 is a road bridge that carries Wharf Lane over the Macclesfield Canal, built around 1827 by William Crosley. The bridge is constructed of yellow sandstone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. It features a single span with a horseshoe arch made of voussoirs and a prominent keystone that connects with the band below the parapet. The sides of the bridge have battered walling, and there are curved retaining walls that end in square piers. The top of the parapet is finished with chamfered coping.
