Description
Styeheath Cottages is a house dating from the early 17th century, with an addition from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is timber framed with rendered infill and has a 20th-century cement-tiled roof. The building is one and a half storeys tall and has a baffle-entry plan. The entrance front consists of two sections, as it was formerly two cottages that have now been combined into one house.
On the right side, there are nine by two cells of small framing, while the left side features an added section painted to simulate five by two cells of small framing. Centrally located is a plank door with strap hinges and a lintel that has ogee moulding along the lower edge. To the right of the door is a 20th-century two-light casement window, and to the left are a two-light window and a single-light window. The left side has another two-light 20th-century window. The first floor includes three gabled dormer windows, each with two lights, and there are two 20th-century chimney stacks positioned to the right and left of the center. At the rear, there is a 20th-century gabled wing.
Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace featuring a cambered chamfered bressumer. The ground floor has chamfered ceiling beams and exposed timber framing on the rear wall, which shows a tension brace. The first floor has queen-post trusses and wind bracing.
