Description

Ridley County Primary School is a village school built in 1876, as noted on a stone tablet, in the Gothic style. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced sandstone and features a tiled roof. The building is single storey with three bays, and includes a two-storey, single bay teacher's house on the east side, creating a "T" shaped plan. The teacher's house and the west bay project forward, with a wide buttress situated between the two central windows.

The school has a weathered plinth and a moulded sill band. The entrance features a boarded door with false strap hinges and a shouldered head set in a stone-dressed opening. This door is sheltered by a lean-to hood, supported by decorative wooden brackets and stone corbels. The main windows are three-light, stone-dressed, and mullioned, with steeply weathered sills and trefoil heads. The central buttress displays the date and "AD" in a trefoil-headed incised panel. The west bay contains 1-and-2-light flat-headed windows, while the west gable features a three-light mullion and transom window with trefoil heads.

The teacher's house has a hexagonal bay with flat-headed lights. The stonework above the window heads is splayed outward at the corners to create square quoins at the first-floor level. The gables have copings, and there is a tall octagonal single-flue chimney above the roof of the west bay, along with a heavy wide bell-cote positioned on the main ridge. The roof is adorned with crested ridge tiles.

Inside, the school consists of a single room with arched braced roof trusses.
