Description
No. 178 on Westgate Road is a house built around 1820. It is constructed of English bond brick with a painted ashlar plinth and dressings. The roof is covered with asbestos tiles designed to look like Welsh slates. The building has three storeys and two bays. On the left side, there is a hardboard-covered door with an overlight featuring patterned glazing bars, set in a panelled surround with a cornice. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, including one wide sash window on the ground floor and two sash windows on the first floor, along with similar cross windows on the second floor. The house has paired gutter brackets and renewed gutters, and a brick chimney rises from the ridge.
