Description
West Garth is a town house built in the late 18th century. It features chevron dressed sandstone on a plinth and has a late 20th-century clay pantile roof behind a low parapet with a moulded eaves cornice. The building has stone ridge and gable copings and two stacks with cornices. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The central doorway is framed by a late 19th-century timber pilaster-and-entablature surround, which includes a six-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight with margin glazing bars. There are two-storey, late 19th-century splayed bay windows with sashes and glazing bars. Above the doorway, there is a sash window with glazing bars and a painted sill.
An early 19th-century extension on the east side matches the original materials and style. This extension is also two storeys high and has a single bay. It features a late 19th-century canted bay window on the ground floor and a sash window with glazing bars on the first floor. At the rear (north elevation) of the house, there is a central round-headed staircase window with intersecting glazing bars. The listing also includes a single-storey outhouse on the west side, which is built in matching materials and dates from the late 18th century.
