Description

A pair of early 19th-century cottages, now shops, stand on the north side of Westgate in Guisborough. They are constructed of dressed sandstone with tooled margins. The roof of number 52 is covered in late 20th-century concrete tiles, while number 54 has clay pantiles with a stone ridge and gable copings. A brick stack is located on the right-hand side. The cottages are two storeys high and have two bays each. The ground floor features mid-20th-century shop fronts. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars and painted stone sills. Number 54 has a late 19th-century timber attic dormer with bargeboards. Rear extensions to the north side are not considered to be of architectural interest.
