Description

Sunnyfield House and its east extension are a late 18th-century town house that has recently been used as offices but is now disused. The building is constructed of chevron dressed sandstone with rusticated quoins at the corners. It features a Westmorland slate roof laid in diminishing courses, with stone gable and ridge copings, and has two stacks. A moulded dentil cornice runs along the top. The house is two storeys high and has five bays, with the central bay slightly projecting forward under a pediment that has dentils beneath a moulded cornice. There is a bulls-eye window in the tympanum, which has geometric glazing bars. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, and they have painted keystones and sills. The centre window above the gabled porch is framed by a moulded architrave and is made from the same materials, featuring a rusticated front. The porch has a six-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight with leaded lights. A Venetian staircase window is located in the centre of the rear (north) elevation. The listing also includes a late 19th-century extension to the right-hand side (east), which uses the same materials and is designed in a similar style. This extension is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring a moulded, panelled plaster ceiling on the ground floor. A brick outbuilding to the north of Sunnyfield House is not considered of interest.
