Description

This early 19th-century house, now with a shop on the ground floor, is located on the south side of Westgate in Guisborough. The building is constructed from dressed sandstone with a Welsh slate roof, stone gable coping to the right-hand side, and two stone stacks with cornice caps, one of which is shared with the adjacent property at number 49. The house is two storeys high.

The central doorway has six panels, a rectangular fanlight above, and a painted keystone. A late 19th-century shop bay window is located to the left, featuring sashes, a white glazed-brick stall riser, and metal, arrow-shaped ventilators above. To the left of the entrance is a shop doorway with a pilaster-and-entablature surround, a four-panelled door (with the top two panels lifting to reveal iron bars), and a rectangular fanlight. The reveals are panelled. A passageway to the right has a stone lintel and double, vertically-boarded doors. Late 19th-century first-floor canted bay windows are present, with sashes to the left and a sash with glazing bars, a painted stone sill, and a keystone to the right. Rusticated quoins are visible.
