Description
Number 38 is a house located on Westgate in Guisborough, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of dressed sandstone with tooled margins and features a clay pantile roof, stone gable and ridge copings, and a stone stack on the right-hand side, along with a brick stack on the left. The house has two storeys and five bays.
The central doorway is framed by a flat pilaster-and-entablature surround, topped with a cornice hood supported by panelled moulded brackets. It has a rectangular fanlight above a four-panelled door. The windows are sash style, with moulded stone architraves that have flared bases and bracketed stone sills that continue as bands. Wrought iron brackets support the ogee iron guttering, and the building features rusticated quoins.
The listing also includes the wrought iron railings that enclose the narrow gardens on either side of the doorway, as well as a mid-19th century rear extension on the north side, which is two storeys tall and constructed in the same materials and style.
