Description
27 Pilrig Street is a town house built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It has two storeys and an attic, with three bays and a basement, and is part of a terrace of nine houses. The exterior is made of cream sandstone, featuring tooled ashlar with polished dressings, while the rear and side are constructed from coursed rubble. There is a cill course at the ground and first floor windows, and a dentilled eaves cornice with a blocking course. The ground floor windows are architraved and corniced.
On the southwest (front) elevation, there is a doorway in the outer left bay, which has an Ionic columned doorpiece with a dentilled cornice, a replacement door, and a rectangular plate glass fanlight above. A single window is located on the first floor above the door, with single windows in the remaining bays. The centre features a rectangular bipartite dormer.
The northeast (rear) elevation has single windows and a wallhead stack on the outer right side. The northwest elevation is a blank gable with the apex stack removed.
The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing. The roof is slate with lead flashings, featuring one wallhead stack and a mutual stack on the northwest side.
The interior was not seen in 1993. There is a low boundary wall at the front with some original railings.
