Description

Tocketts House, also known as The Kennels, is a house consisting of two sections: the earlier part built in the early 18th century and the later part constructed in the early 19th century. The building is made of painted, coursed dressed random sandstone and features a Welsh slate roof with stone ridge and gable copings, as well as kneelers on the right-hand side. It has a central stack and is one and a half storeys tall. The central doorway is blocked and has a chamfered surround. There are two chamfered windows on the ground floor that originally contained Yorkshire sashes with glazing bars but are now boarded up. The house also has two 19th-century skylights and chamfered window openings on the east and north elevations, which are boarded and blocked. A stone plinth supports the structure.

The later section of the house is made of painted chevron dressed sandstone and also has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. It features two stacks, one of stone with a cornice on the left-hand side and one of brick on the right-hand side at the gables. This part is two storeys tall with three bays, and it has sash windows with glazing bars and painted stone sills. The central doorway is topped with a late 19th-century glazed timber porch that is gabled and slated, complete with barge boards. The listing also includes a mid-19th-century single-storey extension on the west gable of the later house, which is rendered and has a hipped slate roof. The earlier part of Tocketts House is disused and dilapidated at the time of the survey, and the farm outbuildings to the north of Tocketts House have been altered too much to be of interest.
