Description
The Guide Post is a roughly dressed sandstone structure dating from around 1755, measuring 700mm by 275mm square. It is located on the east side of Redcar Road at the junction with A173, in Guisborough. The post features inscriptions on its sides: the north side reads "Road to Kirk-Leatham," the east side states "Tockit East," and the south side originally read "Road to Whitby," although it is now partially eroded. The west side is also eroded. Local historian A.E.F. Wright noted the original inscription on the south side.
